Alphonso mango is of high quality and top grade mangoes wherein each piece weighs from 200 gms to 300 gms. Alphonso is known as Gundu in South, Badami in Konkan, Hapus in Northern regions. Alphonso is the highly recommended variety to extract pulp and mango juice. Premium variety differs in the size compared to normal mangoes and the taste, color, quality remains same in both.
Largely grown and consumed in Old Mysuru of Karnataka, this variety is known as the Queen of Mangoes in India. It arrives in the month of May and is available by the end of June. It tastes best in form of yoghurt, smoothie and jam.
